The Be Body Positive Model

Co-Founders Connie Sobczak and Elizabeth Scott, LCSW developed The Be Body Positive Model as a framework for addressing issues related to body image, weight, and identity that encourages people to shift their focus away from ineffective and harmful weight-loss efforts, and towards improving and sustaining positive, joyful self-care behaviors. This health model offers an intuitive approach to health and wellbeing, and is rooted in the philosophy that people inherently possess the wisdom necessary to make healthy choices and to live in balance. The Be Body Positive Model allows for true success because success is not defined as a static end goal of perfection, but as a way of living that gives all people permission to love and care for their genetically inherited bodies as they change throughout life.

This health model is an exciting way to reach people of all ages because the experience and authority of the individual is recognized as the primary path to positive change. It is straightforward, free of gimmicks, and emphasizes peer-to-peer teaching. The Body Positive's method differs from most health and weight loss programs because it empowers people to find their own way to lasting good health and greater happiness rather than dictating a prescriptive set of rules for them to follow. This approach makes it possible to reach a widely diverse group of people.

Initial research results indicate that the Be Body Positive Model significantly improves people's ability to regulate eating, decreases depression and anxiety, and increases self-esteem.
