Specialty Courses
Specialty courses afford divers the opportunity to safely enjoy and gain supervised open water experience in specialized diving activities. Below are just a few courses that are available:
Underwater Environment ... This course is to expose divers to the physical and biological aspects of the diving environmemt with emphasis on the local area. Plant and animal life, conservation, water movement and characteristics, bottom conditions and diving locations.
Underwater Hunting and Collecting ... This course is to provide the diver with the skills and knowledge necessary to safely spearfish, take game, and collect specimens. Skin diving techniques, hazards, cautions and safety, equipment, specific techniques, identification, aquaria and diving locations.
Search and Recovery ... This course provides the diver with the skills and knowledge to safely do those underwater tasks commonly needed by the experienced recreational diver. Underwater navigation, limited visibility diving, search methods, light salvage and recovery.
Night Diving ... This course provides the diver with the skills and knowledge to safely enjoy diving at night. Planning and preparation, night diving equipment, procedures, problems and hazards, navigation and buddy system techniques.
Wreck Diving ... This course is to provide the diver with the skills and knowledge needed to safely gain experience in wreck diving. Hazards, caution and safety, equipment and modification, entanglement and silting, deep diving, navigation and limited visibility.
Deep Diving ... This course is to provide divers with the knowledge and skills to safely plan and make deep dives while avoiding the need for staged decompression. Purpose, problems and hazards, planning and preparation, equipment (additions & modifications) air supplies and personal techniques, emergency procedures, depth limits and decompression procedures, nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness.
